Donate the Gift of Life

It is a simple idea: check yes for being an organ donor. The need for organs is real.  There are currently 116,466 people in the United States waiting for organs and 18 people will die each day waiting for one.  Some people may ask why they should donate.  I ask why not.  We have the power to positively influence the lives of others and this is an opportunity we should all take advantage of. One single organ donor can save up to 8 lives.  Not just organs are donated either; often times people receive tissue transplants that help them recover from serious trauma, bone damage, burns, hearing impairment and vision loss.

Registering is easy.  Next time you register for your license, all you have to do is check a single box and you could save the life of someone in the future.  Another easy way is to visit  this website and you can register online with only a few simple clicks.  Anyone can be an organ donor regardless of their age or medical history and there is no cost to donors or their families.  If anyone is still unsure, just think about if you were an individual waiting on an organ transplant.  After all, what better gift to give than the gift of life?

  1. It is an urban legend that they let you die if in critical condition and an organ donor. No excuses- check the box on your drivers license.

  2. Love this idea. I’ve never understood why anyone would refuse to be a donor…it’s not like you need them at that point. Seconding Meg’s point above as well.
